IT’S SUMMER!

Mom blowing bubbles in the backyard

It’s SUMMER.

I am not even exaggerating when I tell you I believed it would NEVER happen. From a two week long teacher strike, to a surprise week of snow days, to AP/IB testing and finals, school stretched on and on and on. Today was my very last day of school. The excitement bubbled in me throughout this entire week as I slowly crossed classes off my mental schedule.

This is the last French class I will ever take. The last time changing in the girl’s locker room. The last time I’ll ever sit through a lecture about art.

And while saying goodbye to some of my teachers was a little bittersweet, another door opens. A gigantic flowery door that smells like sunshine and blueberry stains and cotton sundresses.

Here are the things I have to look forward to:

– Now officially being a senior!
– A job (turned in my application today)
– Sleeping in
– Movies, beach, mall, repeat
– Long walks with the Canon at any moment in the day
– And of course, lots and lots of baking.

I am so, so looking forward to sharing this month’s Daring Bakers challenge with you all. But for now, I leave you with some jelly I made last weekend. Any ideas what kind it is?

What’s That?

Mystery Item A

One of my most stress-free classes at the moment is Digital Photography. Okay, I’ll admit it. As much as I love photography, I haven’t taken this class very seriously. Sometimes I take my journal photos (which we’re supposed to document our lives with throughout the week) at lunch before 6th period. And sometimes I’ll just take completely uninspired photos that fit the requirement (example: the bus stop sign for a photo of the color yellow.)

This assignment, though, I really had fun with. Our macro assignment. We were supposed to pick a theme… flowers, shoes, etc. I picked kitchen supplies and equipment. These are all close ups of things from my kitchen. Most of them are pretty obvious, some aren’t… Can you guess what they are?

Mystery Item B

More mystery items and the answers after the jump.

Golden Birthday

spring31

I am breaking my personal rule today and posting without a recipe, or even anything food related.

It’s my 17th birthday and it feels like spring.

What is a golden birthday? This may sound silly, but it’s when the date of your birthday matches your age. My birthday is April 17th. 17 is one of my lucky numbers. My blog is called 17 and Baking. Golden for sure!

I do have raspberry chocolate cake and more relevant, food related birthday dinner stuff coming up that I’m simply too distracted to blog about now… I can’t wait to share it all with you! :)

Thank you to everyone who made this day special for me – I had a lovely birthday.
