IT’S SUMMER!

Mom blowing bubbles in the backyard

It’s SUMMER.

I am not even exaggerating when I tell you I believed it would NEVER happen. From a two week long teacher strike, to a surprise week of snow days, to AP/IB testing and finals, school stretched on and on and on. Today was my very last day of school. The excitement bubbled in me throughout this entire week as I slowly crossed classes off my mental schedule.

This is the last French class I will ever take. The last time changing in the girl’s locker room. The last time I’ll ever sit through a lecture about art.

And while saying goodbye to some of my teachers was a little bittersweet, another door opens. A gigantic flowery door that smells like sunshine and blueberry stains and cotton sundresses.

Here are the things I have to look forward to:

- Now officially being a senior!
– A job (turned in my application today)
– Sleeping in
– Movies, beach, mall, repeat
– Long walks with the Canon at any moment in the day
– And of course, lots and lots of baking.

I am so, so looking forward to sharing this month’s Daring Bakers challenge with you all. But for now, I leave you with some jelly I made last weekend. Any ideas what kind it is?

As for the jelly, I’m going to guess… um, kiwi?

    Lime and basil. Jalapeno?

Oh, to be 17 again! Enjoy your summer, every sunny, happy bit of it, and take it all in, arms wide open. (And I’ll try to do the same, at nine years later.)

Wow! Your summer just started? And I thought ours was late. We got out June 4!! We use to get out like on May 24th, but we have been going back later! I can hear you on how easier it is to do everything without the pressure of school! Snow days? Wow, we def. dont have those here(florida). And a teachers strike? We talked about strikes in history and my teacher told us that here if they go on strike they are automatically fired! I can’t wait to see the DB challenge this month. I do not get officially registered until July so I will be participating in that one!

I bet the jelly is some herb right? Like mint or maybe basil?

Shannon – Yeah, we only got out this Wednesday! The teacher’s strike was two weeks but could have even gone on longer… and the snow days! I thought they would never end! I would absolutely love to get out that early in June. The last three weeks of school always seem to me like killing time :)
